Bridal Shop Blues - Measurements, Alterations, Bustles and More!

Posted by admin in different

Buying a gown is scary enough without having to worry about all the extra little things that go hand in hand with this major purchase. Unfortunately it’s not always that there is more to the gown process than giving your and your card. The object of all my articles is to better equip the average, first time bride-to-be with all the inside information that you should know about when preparing to make this important . In this article I will be going over standard requirements, tips and common necessary steps that must be done before or after you purchase your new .

Measurements

Measurements are the necessary dimensions that a shop uses to order the correct for your gown. The bust, waist and hip measurements are the most common. These measurements should be done by someone else (usually a professional consultant) because doing them by yourself leaves too much room for error. Some shops ask that there be no on when measuring (non padded and are ) but if you are uncomfortable with that just make sure you are wearing a tank top or something fitted - no sweaters! The bust measurement should be done under your arms with the tape straight across your back, over the widest point of the bust area. The waist measurement is done at the natural waistline, not where are worn. This tends to be right above the belly button or the smallest part of the waist. The hip measurement will encompass the widest part of the hip, under the bone and including the backside. Please note that this process only determines your for the company that you are purchasing from and may not be your normal . These measurements are used only for determining the and some additional alterations may need to be done for a perfect fit.

Hallow To Hem

This is a measurement used for determining how long the should be in correct proportion for the height of the bride as well as the detail orientation and cut of the bodice. The majority of gowns will not need this measurement (the H2H is considered customization and adds charges to your gown total) because most can simply be altered from the bottom or waist seam. Some , such as an all over with no waist seam or a fully beaded skirt will need to have exact length measurements because no changes can be made after they are cut by the manufacturer.

When getting ready to order a hallow to hem make sure you are prepared with any you are going to (i.e. a crinoline that poufs out the skirt wider and creating the need to have added length to accommodate) as well as the or equivalent heel height for exact measurements.

Alterations

The majority of and bridesmaids will need to have alterations done.

Be sure to check with your salon to see if they have an in-house seamstress or at the very least someone they recommend. Just because a seamstress advertises does not mean that they know sew specifically for . There is a big difference between basic tailoring and the skills needed for alterations. Your gown should not be entrusted to a novice, so get recommendations!!

Take note that alterations are not always included in the price of the gown, even if the seamstress works for the salon you purchased from. Most shops cannot accommodate free alterations and building it into the sale price of the gown is difficult simply because there is no way of gauging what changes will need to be done. Some are very extensive (pregnant bridesmaids or a maid of honor that lost 20lbs just for the ) and some are lucky enough to not need any. It is simply in the of you and your bridesmaids, as well as the shop, to keep it separated despite the inconvenience.

Remember to for these alterations when asking a friend to be in the party. There will be more expenses than just the cost of the (don’t forget , ect).

Bustles

A train adds elegance and prestige to any of gown, however after a certain point it becomes a burden to carry over your arm. A bustle is a pinning up of the skirt, usually done after the ceremony and pictures when the bride needs to have more mobility without dragging the train.

Your seamstress will sew a custom bustle for you at the same time as any other alterations. There are some gowns that come with a bustle already sewn into the skirt but the majority of need to have it customized to your specifications (i.e. your height with heels on).

Not every has the option of doing any of bustle. Some gowns simply work best with one or the other because of the way the train is detailed. Ask the seamstress opinion and perhaps ask to see examples of the different styles to make an educated decision.

There are various types of bustles but the two main styles are:

An under bustle (also called ) picks up the train in multiple places and tucks under the fabric creating a bubble-like look. Longer trains will need more pick-ups and will cascade in layers down the back

Over bustle creates classic folds over the skirt attached at the top of the train (at the waist) or middle part of skirt to ensure the length of the train stays consistent with the hem in the front.

Bustles are held in place with hooks, ties, clear buttons, snaps etc. Your seamstress may have a preference or experienced about what version works best. A point (place of attachment) bustle is usually done on simpler gowns with a sweep train, or multiple points for extremely long trains or skirts with lots of detail that should be showing. This will manipulate the train to not only stay off the floor but also keep the detail in view.

Tips:
Bring your ! You should have the shoe (or a comparable heel height) for all of your fittings to ensure the length is perfect. Once the hem is cut it cannot be undone - make sure!

If your bustle is more than two points, be sure to bring a bridesmaid or your personal attendant to the second fitting when the bustle is complete. Ask your seamstress to show them exactly how the bustle is done. This makes for a lot less when you want to get out on the dance floor!

Should Babies Sleep With Their Parents?

Posted by admin in different

Should you let and small children sleep in the bed with their parents and if so, for how long?

I raised four children and they all slept with us in a standard double bed up to a point–it was just easier that way. I’m a basically lazy person once I get bedded down for the night. I really hated getting up to feed and change junior. I’d lay out couple of clean diapers by the bed and a plastic bag for the dirties. The night-time snacks, of course, didn’t require any special preparation–they were on tap. The slept on my side on the edge rather than the middle of the bed because my husband was afraid he would roll on them. I always threw down extra pillows on the floor on my side in case they either rolled or got pushed out.

But that is ME. A lot of factors enter into this decision: How sound you sleep, whether you are overweight, what medications you take, the of your bed your child’s temperament, your feelings and your spouse’s feelings on the issue, what to do with when you are feeling amorous, is the crib in the parents’ room or not, the or presence of siblings, and so on. A very heavy sleeper who takes meds (especially sleep meds) and/or is overweight might want to think twice about having the in the bed with them. There is no right and wrong here, and what is right in one situation may be wrong in another; what is right for one child may be wrong for another, Some people have very strong opinions on both sides of this issue. Some will try to make you feel like you are a horrible parent if you do it and some will try to make you feel horrible if you don’t. Don’t let them do it. You are the expert here. You can trust yourself that YOU are the best person to know.

We started encouraging ours to sleep in the crib when they started getting rowdy–the exact age was different from child to child, but generally around the age they could walk easily. We also expected them to be able to asleep on their own and trained them to do so by means of a trick I learned from a daycare provider: most asleep easily when their are rhythmically and surprisingly firmly (!) patted for about fifteen minutes, in or out of the parental bed. Once there were multiple children and they were beyond the age of needing sustenance every four hours they were quite happy to curl up with each other to sleep: big sis would crawl in the crib with little brother and once little brother learned to escape from the crib he would just as often crawl in with big sis, especially on a cold night.

I honestly think that whether children sleep with their parents or not is a non-issue. Here is my :

  • have in your instincts
  • don’t waver between the given in this book or that book
  • don’t beat yourself up if feel you made a mistake — children are forgiving
  • present a consistent and firm but loving presence to your little one (note: love is not the same thing as indulgence)
  • don’t try to make him happy all the time, rather teach him make himself happy.

Finer Points of Creating Novelty T-Shirts

Posted by admin in different

The reasons why people create and novelty t- are just too many to mention but one thing that they all have in common is how they are made. Everyone, has at some time come up with at least one great idea for a novelty t-shirt but not everyone has the means to have their concepts turned into reality. However; new technological advancements have now made creating your own novelty t- easier to do then ever before.

Create Even One T-Shirt

Its the of digital print technology that has made creating novelty t- so much easier to do now. Not only are they cheaper using this new technology but there is no more need for minimum orders. This means that now if you only want a few or even one t-shirt created you can easily find an online source that will do it for you.

Screen Frame

In the past, a screen frame had to be created with the design on it. Then this frame was used in the screen printing process. It was all of the labor that was required to create the print frame that necessitated the need for a minimum order. To produce just a few from the frame that was created was simply not cost effective.

Digital Printing

Digital printing of novelty t- operates on the same principles as a digital printer that prints paper down at Kinkos. Your image or design is first loaded into he printers memory and then it is simply transferred onto what ever fabric or shirt you are having your design printed on. This means that there is no need for minimum order requirements.

Light Colors on Dark Fabrics

However; there is one thing that a digital printer cannot do as well as traditional screen printing and that is print light colors on dark fabrics. This is because digital printers use a very thin type of ink that functions well in its micro-sprayers. This means that for lighter colors printed onto darker colored fabrics, screen would be the ideal choice of methods.
